Welcome

Welcome to my page! My name is James Copper, I am 22 years old and I am seeking to be selected as the Labour Party candidate for Westhoughton North & Hunger Hill.

I have lived in Westhoughton my whole life and I have watched it grow and develop and turn into the thriving town we see today.

I have always been very active in the community and I dedicate a lot of my time volunteering with various groups for the betterment of our home. I take pride in our town and I want to see the town and the lives of everyone who lives here change for the better.

If you're interested in my background and experience then take a look at my 'About Me' page.

My Priorities

01
Increase Local Democracy
  • Hold regular meetings. To make local politics more accessible to residents, councillors work for local people, not themselves.

  • Conduct resident surveys.

  • Increase regular canvassing. To make sure the priorities of local residents are up to date and taken into account.

  • Hold public consultations on local issues so that local residents have their say on local decision-making.

02
Prioritise young people and families
  • Fight for the provision of youth activities. Working with local businesses and organisations as well as the town council and Bolton council.

  • Fight to regenerate our parks and community green spaces. So that children and families can enjoy safe and fun equipment in our parks.

  • Push for new and improved initiatives to tackle antisocial behaviour (ASB) at its source. Working with local police, the town council, Bolton council and partner agencies.

03
Protect and Develop Our Green Spaces
  • Strongly oppose and campaign againt any proposed developements that destroy our local green spaces.

  • Look into measures that can improve our local green spaces so that they are more accessible and enjoyable for all residents. Working with the town council, Bolton council and other organisations.

Save Our Ticket Offices

SAVED!

ACCESSIBILITY AND TRAIN TICKET OFFICE CLOSURES

Westhoughton residents have been dealing with the terrible accessibility of our two train stations for years. The proposed closure of the Daisy Hill ticket office is the latest blow to rail users in Westhoughton and is completely unacceptable.

Phil Brickell for Bolton West and Atherton and I have worked hard to fight to keep our last remaining ticket office open in Weshoughton. Luckily the government has now reversed this decision. Consider our ticket offices SAVED!

What Do You Want?

There are a wide range of issues facing our town, some new and some old and deep-rooted. As a lifetime resident of Westhoughton, I am well aware of the problems facing our area but I want to ask everybody what their biggest concerns are.

What are the issues that affect YOU the most? What would YOU like to see being done in our town?
